Navratri & Dusshera 2016


Dusshera
Dusshera festival holds a lot of importance for Hindus. The word Dusshera is derived from DASHA and HARA, two sanskrit words that mean 'Defeating The Ten'. It symbolizes the conquest good over evil. This is the Day when Lord Rama killed the ten headed demon king - Ravana. Dusshera is also associated with Goddess Durga. It is the day when Goddess Durga Killed the demon Mahishasur.


Navratri
Vacant or Chapitra Navratri is the time for the purification of thoughts. Each day is devoted to a different goddess. Navratri ia a festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu Deity Durga. The word Navratri means 'Nine Nights' in the Sanskrit. During these nine nights, nine forms of Devi are worshipped. The tenth day is commonly referred to as Vijayadashami or Dusshera.
