Our Gujarati Baby Shower

8:40:00 PM

I am pretty excited to write and share my Gujarati Baby Shower experience with you all. I was almost 37 weeks that week and the doctor said that I might be in labor any time. I was very nervous as my Baby Shower was going to take place that weekend. By the way Gujarati Shower was completely new for me and my parents as we are Tamilians and Jeet is from a Gujarati family. I can truly say this one included All The things I love - My mom's food, my favorite people and pure relaxation. Well, honestly no one wanted me to run errands and do stuff, being a third trimester preggo. So apart from making the treats for my baby shower which was all US style, I didn't move around much. Well, that's not usually a good thing for me as I love to do all the chores myself, but I enjoyed not having to think much about cooking dinner, washing dishes, doing the laundry and other stuff. I am sooo thankful for my parents and hubby, as they have put a lot of effort into planning the perfect shower and it showed!

Gujarati Showers incorporate a few different religious and cultural rituals. Like I looked up the significance of my mom pouring the rice and placing the coconut, especially represents the exchange of blessings, strength etc, from a mom to mom-to-be. Other than those types of things and some additional praying for the baby and parents to be our shower was similar to most others.

Overall, we felt overwhelmed by the amount of love we were showered with that weekend! It was so fun sharing our excitement with our closet family members and friends, many of whom drove or flew quite a distance. I am so thankful to everyone who made the effort to celebrate with us. Each and everyone's presence was deeply appreciated!
